Solar powered
All of our Message signs are solar powered. The signs will run for an indefinite amount of time with no external charging required. This eliminates the need for the high maintenance and environmentally un-friendly diesel generator powered signs.
LED technology
Our Message Signs display messages using LED technology. There are no moving parts to jam or fail as in flip disk designs. The LED’s are designed to last for over 10 years, lowering your maintenance costs and increasing reliability.
NTCIP compliance
All NorthStar Message Boards are NTCIP compliant. NTCIP is an ITS protocol standard that allows existing state agency systems to integrate with our Message Boards without any modifications.
Easy to use Instant Programming
NorthStar Message Boards are easy to program with the Instant Programming Menu. The Instant Programming Menu allows users to easily put messages on the sign with no previous experience. All Message Boards come with a library of 260 commonly used phrases and graphics.
Powerful scheduling
Messages can be scheduled to turn on and off by selecting any month, day, and time. Scheduling is not restricted to day of week.

Trailers are constructed with a heavy duty tubular structure designed to last in rental fleets.
Poly Battery Compartments
All NorthStar signs house the controls and batteries in an easy access and rugged poly compartment that can be locked to eliminate tampering and theft.
Cellular Phone Remote Access
Optional cellular phone remote access allows the user to access the sign remotely from any Windows based computer. Windows software is fully functional, if you can do it locally, you can do it remotely!
Cellular modems can be ordered in any digital technology (TDMA, CDMA, GSM) so you can use your normal wireless provider.
Radar Speed Monitor
Optional Radar Speed Monitor allows the sign to display the traffic speed. Custom messages with the speed can be created, and speed thresholds can be set to display a message at a programmable speed.
Windows Based Software
Our easy to use windows based software allows the user to quickly create message sequences, schedules, and create custom graphics. Our handy graphics utility even allow users to import black and white BMP images.

	Controller Controller has a backlit LCD and a backlit QWERTY style keyboard. Custom software is so easy to use that no training is required. Much easier to use than other "pendant" style controllers.
	Easy to change LED panels Each LED panel is interchangeable. No tools are required, panel comes off with 6 quarter turn fasteners. Each panel is independent from the other panels. This means that if one panel fails, the other panels will continue functioning.
	LED panel heartbeat Each LED panel has a built-in "heartbeat" indicator. This "heartbeat" will tell you the status of power, communications, or faults. This cuts troubleshooting time down significantly.
	Locking battery compartments To prevent thieves and vandals, the battery compartments and all other sensitive items are lockable with any padlock.
	Round corners on sign cabinet The sign cabinet has a distinct look with it's round corners. Not only does it look good, but it softens the blow when you hit your head.
	Rear hitch receiver Trailer has a hitch receiver in the rear so two signs can be towed at once, lowering the cost of delivery.
	Retractable outrigger legs Trailer has retractable outrigger legs to stabilize the sign in high winds and to reduce space when traveling or shipping.
	Combination 2" ball / pintle hitch Optional combination 2" ball / pintle hitch is available to maximize functionality. PCMS comes standard with separate ball or pintle hitches.
